To assure that our group and the equiptment we used stayed safe we took some percautions.
Risk assesement
This assured that we understood many of the risks to our filming and production, allowing us to work around potential problems, meaning that the filming and production of our video went smoothly.
Each time we booked out a camera we would have to complete one of the college's Risk Assessement sheets which recorded our name and contact details, and also where and when we would be using the camera. This ensures that the college is covered for any damage to the equiptment, whilst also being able to contact us if need whilst we are out shooting.
Carrying out the colleges risk assessement allowed me and my group to realise potential risks that we may come across whilst filming such as: permission, acessability, noise levels, hazzards created from equiptment (eg wires), any damage to the surrounding locations that we use, or hazzards to ourselves or the general public.
Some risks envolving our production that we identified included:
Use of camera on bridge - to minimise the risk of the camera being damaged, or falling on pedestrians if it were to fall we attached a saftey cable which connected it to our hands to give it extra support.
Gaining permission - One of our locations was a privately owned resedential area, so we asked a member of the area who gave us permission to shoot there.
Potentialy dangerous surroundings - One of our timelaps shots required George to be looking down onto the road from a slope near a bridge. We realised that this could be a potentialy dangerous setting, however we agreed that George should sit on a concrete section of the bridge as this would give him the support needed to stay there long enough for the time lapse.
